Your dashboards
A dashboard is a wall of tiles for one Homey: lights, sensors, thermostats, meters, flows and moods, arranged the way you want and live while you look at them. You make as many as your plan allows.
Start with a suggestion
Choose + next to Dashboards in the sidebar to open the new dashboard wizard. Right after you connect your first Homey it opens by itself, with Home already picked.
Step one is to pick a start. Each card is built from your own Homey and shows a miniature of its layout and what it holds, such as “6 sections · 31 tiles”:
- Home: a section per room, with what matters most in each.
- Favourites: the devices, flows and moods you starred in the Homey app.
- One room: everything in a room you pick on the card, grouped by what it does.
- Energy: power, solar, battery and car charging, with charts.
- Climate: thermostats and how warm and humid each room is.
- Security: cameras, locks, the alarm, doors and windows, smoke and motion.
- Scenes: your moods and flows, a tap away.
- Sleep: a big clock and a few facts, made for a wall panel at rest.
- An empty wall: place every tile yourself.
A card that would be empty is greyed out and says why, for example when nothing on your Homey measures power.
Choose Next and name the dashboard. The preview shows your real devices with live values. Untick any section or tile you do not want, and the layout closes up. Create dashboard makes it and opens it.
Arrange the sidebar
The sidebar shows the dashboards you chose, in your order. A new dashboard shows there while fewer than eight do. The switcher (⌘K, or Ctrl K) finds every dashboard, shown or not.
To change the sidebar, open your name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Edit sidebar, or type “edit sidebar” in the switcher. In edit mode:
- Drag a dashboard by its handle to move it. A dashed outline shows where it will land. The arrow keys move it too.
- The eye hides a dashboard, or shows it again. Hidden dashboards wait under Hidden.
- New group makes a folder with a name and an icon. Drop dashboards on it to put them in. A group’s menu changes its name and icon, or deletes it; its dashboards stay.
- The eye also hides a group, or a page you rarely use, such as Store or Energy settings.
Done (or Escape) saves the sidebar to your account, so every browser shows the same one. Reset brings back the pages a new account has; your dashboards and groups stay as they are. A group opens and closes with a click, and each browser remembers which are open.
To show or hide one dashboard quickly, choose Show in sidebar or Hide from sidebar in its menu, or press ⇧↵ on it in the switcher.
Edit a dashboard
Open the dashboard menu (Dashboard options, the ⋯ beside the dashboard’s name) and choose Edit dashboard. With the title hidden, the menu waits in the bottom right corner. Tiles lift slightly and dots mark where they can snap on the 12-column grid. Changes save by themselves, and the header says Saving… or Saved.
- Move a tile by dragging it. The spot where it will land glows.
- Resize it with the corner bracket. A readout shows the size as you drag.
- Select one tile with a click, several with Shift or Cmd and click, or draw a box on empty space.
- Add with the toolbar. Widget opens the widget picker, Heading adds a section heading, and Summaries adds a row of facts.
The widget picker lists your Devices by room, your Flows, your Moods and Other. Its search looks in every tab at once, and while you type each tab shows how many matches it holds. Click something and every widget that fits it appears as a live preview, with the best fit marked Recommended. Tick its box to add it, or pick a look, which ticks it too. Tick several things to add them in one go.
A heading names the tiles below it and can show up to six live summaries, such as lights on, temperature or power use. A reading… in its Add menu shows one value: a device’s reading, or your Homey’s energy and prices, such as the price now or what today cost. A price is coloured by whether it is cheap or expensive.
Configure and style a tile
Open a tile’s menu in edit mode for Configure… and Style….
- Configure… opens the widget’s settings next to a live preview. Look lets you switch to another widget that fits the same device, and the settings keep what the new widget understands. Taps are set per part of the tile. Themes and styling covers Style….
- Copy style and Paste style move a tile’s look to others.
- Remove takes a tile away from every size.
Every widget has its own page, with every setting described, in the widget gallery.
Dashboard settings
The dashboard menu (Dashboard options) has Dashboard settings…, in three tabs:
- Spacing: the room between tiles and around the dashboard. Tiles that touch can become one shape.
- Layout: Fit to screen scales the whole dashboard to the screen. Free placement lets tiles stay where you put them, gaps and all. Show the title controls the name and summaries above the tiles.
- Look: the dashboard’s theme.
The same menu holds Name and icon…, Duplicate…, Preview on e-ink, Open on start, Use as wall panel…, Share… and Delete dashboard…. Open on start makes the app open on that dashboard when you start it, instead of on Devices.
One dashboard, three layouts
A dashboard arranged for a laptop is cramped on a portrait tablet and a long column on a phone. So each dashboard keeps three arrangements: Phone, Tablet and Desktop.
Tiles, their settings, styles and taps are the same on every size. Only where tiles go, and which are hidden, differs per size.
- A window under 720 px wide shows Phone, 720 to 1099 px shows Tablet, and 1100 px and wider shows Desktop.
- Desktop is the main arrangement. A size you have not arranged follows Desktop, so a move on Desktop shows there too.
- In edit mode, the size switch above the toolbar picks the size you are arranging. Each size says Arranged, Follows Desktop or Main layout, and counts tiles waiting for a place.
- Arrange for phone starts from what the phone shows now. From then on, moving and resizing changes the phone only. Follow Desktop again throws that arrangement away, after asking.
- Hide on Phone keeps a tile everywhere else. Hidden tiles wait in a tray beside the phone, where Show brings them back.
- Adding a tile puts it on every size, in the same section. It carries a New here tag until you place it or choose Keep it here.
You edit from a wide window. On a phone itself, Edit dashboard in the menu says it needs a wider window.
Open dashboards from dashboards
Any tile, summary chip or the Dashboard button widget can open another dashboard. Under Open as, you choose how it appears:
- Open the dashboard, as a page.
- Open as a popup, centred over the dashboard.
- Open as a side panel, from the right edge, with the dashboard’s Phone layout.
- Open full screen, laid out as the page is.
A popup uses the layout that a window as wide as the popup shows, so a popup under 1100 px wide shows Tablet. Tiles hidden on that size stay hidden there too.
Popups and side panels show the other dashboard live and tappable, in its own theme. They close with ✕, a tap outside, or Esc. On a wall panel they also close after a time you set.
A tile’s Tap tab sets what a tap does: open the device, open a dashboard, start a flow, show a reading’s history, or nothing. A tile’s own controls, such as a slider, keep working.
History and recording
Live values need no setup. History does, because Homey’s own Insights history is coarse and Tiledash can only show what it has recorded. You switch recording on per reading.
- Open Devices and choose a device.
- Under Readings, switch on Record for the reading.
A recorded reading gets a sparkline and a History link. Open it for a chart with a Range from 6 hours to a year, and Detail of Fine, Hourly or Daily. Tiles can show a chart behind or below their values, and the History widget puts the whole dialog on a dashboard.
Stopping a recording deletes its history. The Recordings tab on the account page lists every recorded reading with Stop, so you can free a place when your plan is full.
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Recorded readings | 10 | 250 |
| Every value kept | 2 days | 30 days |
| Hourly kept | 30 days | 2 years |
| Daily kept | not kept | 10 years |
| Shortest time between samples | 60 seconds | 10 seconds |
Alerts
Smoke, a leak, the alarm, motion, a door opening or the doorbell can wake a screen and show what is going on, with the camera that sees it. The rules, such as which devices alert and when, live under Alerts on the account page. A wall panel follows them when Wake for alerts is on in its settings. Wall panels and e-ink has the rest.
